Sherwin Concepcion's Season-High 25 Points Lifts UST Over UE

Sherwin Concepcion scored season-high 25 points, also his career-high as the UST Growling Tigers pounced on a listless UE Red Warriors late in the 4th quarter to win 74-62. The Tigers dropped a 12-0 bomb with the game tied at 62-all, 2-1/2 minutes left in the game clock for the final score that saw a see-saw battle come to a anti-climactic conclusion. UE and UST played helter-skelter basketball throughout the game not allowing each other to pull away. In fact, there were 14 lead changes and 7 tied scores. UE led at the start 6-0 but it looks like UST has the better talent in terms of size and skill. One can sense their confidence even when the Warriors were hanging tough with Clint Escamis, Kris Pagsanjan and acrobatic Aurin Catacutan. UST had a 25-24 lead in the first quarter who had Concepcion and Bryan Santos providing the firepower. They also might have discovered a gem in daredevil Christian Manaytay. The lead swung to UE 39-36 at the half. Then its Nic Cabanero's turn for UST to contribute. The 3rd quarter finished at 50-all, preparing the stage for a 62-all deadlock that went UST's way. Concepcion led all scorers with 25 points, followed by Manaytay 12, Cabanero 12 and Santos 10. For UE Catacutan scored 17 points, Pagsanjan 10 and Escamis 9. In retrospect, one might wonder how Season 84 might have been for UST if they had an import.
