Open Letter to FIBA

Fรฉdรฉration Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA)

Greetings Gentlemen, Ladies:

I am a basketball scout from the Philippines and I would like to ask the status of Filipino-Americans Jordan Clarkson and Jalen Green who we would love to see play for our Gilas Pilipinas National Team as locals. The Philippines base it's citizenship from Jus Sanguinis or the Right of Blood so if your grandparent is Filipino, you are a natural-born Filipino as compared to a naturalized Filipino. Others countries like the United States derive citizenship from Jus Soli or the Right of Soil. I understand that FIBA Rules state that players should have a passport of their country of origin at 16 years old. We are not sure if the players in question have acquired Filipino passports at age 16. However they are FIlipinos at birth as stated by the Philippine Constitution. I hope you reconsider our case.

Sincerely,

Luis Voltaire Guzman Castillo

It was a 3rd quarter showdown as Ateneo matched UST point for point thus it was still 74-58 Ateneo. The Blue Eagles led as much as 24 points in the 4th quarter where Tio scored 8 straight points at 82-58. From then its just a matter of keeping UST at bay as Ateneo cruised to victory. La Salle Outsteadies Adamson In Grind-It-Out Game

La Salle Outsteadies Adamson In Grind-It-Out Game

It was another close game for Adamson (1-6) versus La Salle (5-2) this time and yet again they come up short. Deschon Winston scored on a drive with 1 minute left in the game as La Salle wrestled the lead at 56-55 then Evan Nelle hits a clutch 3 with 35 seconds left in the game clock, pushing La Salle to a 4-point cushion at 59-55 before Keith Zaldivar cuts it at 59-58 with a 3 of his own. Joaqui Manuel hits a couple of pressure-packed free throws to make it 61-58 La Salle. Zaldivar's 3-point shot attempt was blocked by Justine Baltazar as Adamson's endgame woes continue. Adamson hung with La Salle in the 1st quarter as it ends at 15-all. Lenda Douanga, Jerom Lastimosa and Didat Hanapi provided the scoring as usual. Kurt Lojera scored 8 points in the 2nd quarter as La Salle leads 30-26 at the half. La Salle still leads after 3 quarters at 45-42. It looked like a deflated La Salle team out there as Adamson seizes the lead in the 4th quarter 47-45 and at 53-49 with Cedrick Manzano and Dounga scoring from inside. However Winston, Baltazar and Michael Phillips scored baskets as La Salle claws back. Manuel led La Salle with 14 points, Nelle 12 and Winston 10. Adamson was led by Lastimosa with 15 points, Douanga 11 and Joem Sabandal 10.

Triangle and Two napag-usapan natin sa depensa. Isa itong give and go ngunit may screen pa silang ginawa.

RJ Abarrientos Hits Winning Shot As FEU Steals Game From Adamson

RJ Abarrientos Hits Winning Shot As FEU Steals Game From Adamson

FEU (3-3) trailed Adamson (1-5) throughout the 4th quarter and was trailing 54-62 with 3 minutes left in the game before the Tamaraws unleashed a 12-3 blast to end the game at 66-65. RJ Abarrientos hits the game-winning 3 with 20 seconds left while Jerom Lastimosa missed another probable game-winner on a 3-point shot attempt. The game started slowly with both teams playing deliberate basketball. First quarter ends at 13-9 FEU leads. Lenda Douanga was doing the damage for Adamson while LJ Gonzales was heating up in the 2nd quarter. Jerom Lastimosa makes a pull-up jumper for a 28-26 Adamson half-time lead. In the 3rd quarter Abarrientos teamed up with Gonzales while Cedrick Manzano holds the fort for Adamson. The Tams still lead 46-43 end of 3rd quarter. The Soaring Falcons then dropped a 8-2 bomb at the start of the 4th quarter and they led FEU since. Gonzales and Xyrus Torres kept the torch alive for FEU until they clawed back with a Gonzales layup at 63-62 before Lastimosa made a 3-ball to make it 65-62 Adamson time down to 20 seconds before the Abarrientos shot. The Tamaraws' charge were led by Abarrientos with 19 points, Gonzales 16 and Torres 13. Lastimosa led the Falcons with 16, Manzano 12 and Douanga 10.

Ateneo Clobbers UE Following A Lazy Start

Ateneo Clobbers UE Following A Lazy Start

Ateneo (6-0) was gamely exchanging baskets with UE (0-6) in a 39-all first half then they got serious. With Ange Kouame imposing himself inside the lane, Ateneo beats up UE 94-72. Captain Ball Gian Mamuyac was spark this time when he scored 13 straight Ateneo points in the 3rd quarter as the Blue Eagles led 61-53. UE's scoring was sputtering at this time with Ateneo closing down their shooters from outside. Ateneo's bench also contributed as Joshua Lazaro scores on a fastbreak layup to make it 73-60 Ateneo. It was then Kouame again showed his might inside the paint, and together with SJ Belangel, they brought down the finishing touches to the game. Mamuyac and Koaume led Ateneo with 21 points each while Dave Ildefonso and Belangel both had 8. UE had Kyle Paranada and Harvey Pagsanjan scoring 15 points apiece.

NU Routs UST After A Big Third Quarter Run

NU Routs UST After A Big Third Quarter Run

NU (3-3) puts its head down and went to work on defense in the third quarter holding down UST (2-4) to a measly 9 points as the Bulldogs ran away with the win 82-51. Both teams played uninspired basketball in the first half, albeit sloppy at times. Probably feeling the effects of playing 3 times a week in a cramped schedule rather than having 1 or 2 games a week. John Lloyd Clemente's 5 straight points closed out the 1st quarter for NU 16-13. The slowed down play of NU continued where Reyland Torres thrives the best hitting 3s and making driving layups. NU leads UST 35-31 at the half. Shaun Ildefonso's gritty play inside the paint gave NU a much needed push as it slowly built a 53-40 lead in the 3rd quarter on a crest of a 19-0 blast NU led 60-40 to end the quarter. The Bulldogs cruised in the 4th quarter outscoring the Tigers 22-11. NU's balanced attack, which had 9 players scoring 5 points or more, was led by Torres with 12 points, Jake Figueroa , 11 and Ildefonso 10. UST was led by Nic Cabanero with 11 points, Sherwin Concepcion 10 and Paul Manalang 8.

La Salle Loses Steam In UP Fourth Quarter Fightback

La Salle Loses Steam In UP Fourth Quarter Fightback

UP gets the better of La Salle 61-59 holding them scoreless in the last 2 minutes. UP also went scoreless in 4 possessions in that stretch and they were lucky La Salle wasn't able to take the game into overtime with a last second missed shot from Michael Phillips. Zavier Lucero was the best player who scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, with a couple of sensational dunks. Together with Carl Tamayo, it was a frontcourt showdown against Justine Baltazar and M. Phillips. Bright Nwankwo received little playing minutes while Malick Diouf was rather a non-factor on both ends of the court. It was a back and forth game in the first quarter as both teams were neck and neck at 17-all, characteristic of a defensive game. La Salle and UP would run with opportunities but they cannot pull away from each other. La Salle led 35-28 in the second quarter after Evan Nelle heats up from outside while CJ Cansino hits a couple of 3-pointers. Tamayo scored 5 straight points to make the game 35-32 La Salle still leads at halftime. Lucero and James Spencer picked the slack for UP who was missing the scoring of Ricci Rivero. La Salle makes it 48-45 after 3 quarters with M. Phillips scoring at the post and Mark Nonoy making layups. Lucero was exchanging baskets with the La Salle squad in the 4th quarter making jump shots, drives and follow-up layups. Lucero capped the 8-0 UP run with a 3-ball the score 57-54 UP leads with 4 minutes left in the game. M. Phillips scored on a follow and Deschon Winston hits a 3 and La Salle comes within 2 of UP at 61-59 time two minutes left. La Salle would come up short. UP was led by Lucero with 21 points, Tamayo 9 and Cansino 9. Baltazar led La Salle with 13 points, Nelle 13, M. Phillips 9 and Nonoy 9.

Halimbawa may mataas o may magaling mag-drive.
