Ange Kouame Lifts Ateneo Past De La Salle

Ange Kouame Tows Ateneo Past De La Salle

Ange Kouame scored 16 points, hauled down 19 rebounds and swatted 2 shots to keep Ateneo (4-0) undefeated inspite of the La Salle (3-1) inspired fightback. In the battle of unbeatens, it was a question of whether La Salle can match Ateneo's firepower. Kouame went to work early as Ateneo race to a 13-4 start. Michael Phillips relished the challenge from Koaume and energized the game for DLSU and basically was everywhere hustling, rebounding and scoring. However Ateneo's frenetic pace stunned La Salle, the Blue Eagles lead 30-19 in the second quarter before M. Phillips hustled time and again, and with the help of Mark Nonoy and Evan Nelle, they trimmed the lead to 35-32 at the half. In the 3rd quarter, Ateneo's 23-13 outburst  capped by back-to-back 3s by Tyler Tio and Kouame post plays made it a 68-45 ballgame. Dave Ildefonso, Gian Mamuyac and SJ Belangel have also contributed heavily for Ateneo, scoring and doing the intangibles. Basically, it was Ateneo's guards vs La Salle's bigs. However La Salle did not get the usual contribution from Justine Baltazar and the attention from defense he makes. That really spelled the difference. Ateneo wins going away as they starched La Salle 74-57. Koaume scored 16 points, Ildefonso 12, Mamuyac 11 and Belangel 8 for Ateneo. M. Phillips tallied 13 points, Nonoy 12 and Nelle 10 for La Salle.

*Coach's Corner: Ateneo's delaying of the outlet pass have prevented La Salle from scoring easy points on the fastbreak.
