UP Makes Easy Work of UE
UP (2-1) one of the strongest teams on paper, showed why it is being touted as a contender early in the season as they move past UE 81-66. Zavier Lucero scored for the Fighting Maroons as the Red Warriors were searching a messiah. Or messiahs. It seemed that way though when Kyle Paranada, Harvey Pagsanjan and Clint Escamis teamed up for a 15-2 run in the fourth quarter to cut UP's lead to 73-64. However UE ran out of time and UP runs away for the final score. Ricci Rivero, Carl Tamayo and CJ Cansino were the constants day in and day out for UP as they were relaxed facing a winless UE (0-3) squad. Rivero opens up the scoring with a 3 and UP never looked back after that. They surged on for a 31-13 lead in the first quarter and the cushion would be enough for the rest of the game. UP led as much as 29 points the score 48-19 before a 13-2 UE run trimmed the lead to 50-32 at halftime. UP built up big leads in the 3rd quarter outscoring UE by 30 points several times. UP held on until that UE fightback in the fourth quarter. Lucero had 14 points, Rivero 14, Cansino 10 and Tamayo 8 for UP. Escamis had 16 points, Paranada 13 and Pagsanjan 12 for UE.
