Paul Manalang Hits 5 Treys As UST Surprises Adamson
Paul Manalang was the extra punch UST needed as Adamson was at their heels chasing. Manalang scored 15 points in the 3rd quarter on 5 of 7 shooting from rainbow land as UST doused icewater on Adamson rallies to win 79-72. UST's game plan is simple, find the open man and shoot the 3. They have the personnel who shoots 3-pointers from guards like Joshua Fontanilla and Nicael Cabanero to bigs like Bryan Santos and Dave Ando. They frustrated Adamson throughout the game who were missing point-blank range shots and were shooting contested shots thanks to the Tigers' perimeter defense. UST's high-point man Sherwin Concepcion hits from 3 early, while for Adamson pounded it on the paint to import Lenda Douanga, Keith Zaldivar and Joem Sabandal. UST leads 19-16 at the first quarter after a Jordi Gomez de Liano 3. Douanga carried Adamson in the second quarter while Vince Magbuhos connects outside but UST still leads 45-41 at the half. Jerom Lastimosa wasn't exempted on those frustrations as he has missed open layups. In the end, not even the patience of Adamson can win this game. UST lived and died with the 3, they were victorious again this time. Manalang scored 15 points, Fontanilla 10, Santos 9 and Cabanero 8 for the Growling Tigers. Lastimosa and Douanga had 16 and Magbuhos 8 for the Soaring Falcons.
