UP Escapes With A 73-71 Win As Jerom Lastimosa Misses At The Buzzer
In the most thrilling game at UAAP Season 84 thus far, Jerom Lastimosa missed an open 3-ball at the buzzer enabling UP to escape with a 73-71 win over Adamson. Lastimosa, with help from Cedrick Colonia and Cedrick Manzano, has built an early Adamson lead at 11-4. Malick Diouf and Ricci Rivero were the bright spots for UP while Adamson bigs Lenda Douanga and Keith Zaldivar were waxing hot. Adamson led 22-13 after the first quarter. Diouf continued his hustle on scoring on fastbreaks and follow-ups. CJ Cansino hits a 3 and Zavier Lucero inside, UP scores in bunches quickly to cut the lead at 29-24 Adamson. The Fighting Maroons have tied it up on the half at 39-all with a 15-7 run as the triumvirate of Diouf, Cansino and Lucero were scoring. Lucero started the 3rd quarter attack with 6 points as UP led 48-42 before Douanga and Lastimosa teamed up to make the game close at 55-53 UP still leads after 3 quarters. Lastimosa scored 4 points in a row as Adamson leads 58-55 at the start of the 4th quarter. It was Tamayo's turn this time to step up for UP as he 6 scored points, UP leads 63-60 with only 6 minutes left in the game. UP's trapping defense was highlighted by the turnover on Joshua Yerro the score 70-66 with 1:50 left on the game clock. Yerro make up fo r the error as he scores in a drive making 73-71 UP only 30 seconds left. UP missed a shot and Adamson gets the ball back with 7 seconds left. Douanga then sets a wide screen that freed Lastimosa for what could have been the winning shot. UP was led by Lucero's 20 points followed by Diouf 16, Tamayo 11 and Rivero 10. Lastimosa scored 18 points for Adamson, Douanga 16 and Zaldivar 14.
