Speedster Mark Nonoy Makes Vital Plays In La Salle Win Over NU 59-55
Mark Nonoy was a blur in both ends of the court and outclassed opposing guards in the La Salle win over NU. Nonoy hits a crucial 3 making the score 56-49 in favor of the Green Archers with 3-1/2 minutes left in the game. Both teams came up empty after until a basket from NU makes the game closer 56-52 with time winding down 39 seconds. Justine Baltazar puts away the game with a 3-point play and Joson of NU hits for the final count 59-55. It was a defense-oriented game for both teams as their zones and double-teams describe the game. NU led at the start 10-3 with Antonio Joson, Jake Figueroa and their outside sniping. Sluggish La Salle offense slowly hummed with Kurt Lojera coming alive, they wrestled the lead 19-16. With La Salle playing the passing lanes and coming up with steals and easy fastbreaks, they threatened to pull away at 29-20. NU makes a 10-0 run as 3rd string Point Guard Steve Nash Enriquez speed matches up with Nonoy. Half-time score reads 30-29 NU in a low-scoring game. Both imports were quite non-factors as Issa Gaye of NU was injured 3 minutes into the 3rd quarter and he would not come back in the game. La Salle opted to use Bright Nwankwo sparingly and let Baltazar battle it up with NU bigs Geremy Mahinay and Michael Malonzo. It was 43-42 NU after 3 quarters. Nonoy teams up with Baltazar and Cyrus Austria to make a potent inside-outside combo. Back to back baskets by Baltazar at the post makes it 53-49 La Salle. This frees up Nonoy for the crucial 3 and Baltazar cleans up the score 59-55 for La Salle. Nonoy had 13 points, Baltazar 13 and Austria 10 for the Green Archers. For the Bulldogs, Malonzo had 10, Joson 9, Figueroa 9.
